Overview
Located in Beijing, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Its predecessor, the Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (GUCAS), was the first graduate school in China. UCAS granted the PRC’s first Ph.D. degree in science, the first Ph.D. degree in engineering, the first Ph.D. degree to a female student, and the first double Ph.D. degree. In June 2012, GUCAS was renamed UCAS. Now UCAS boasts its four campuses in different locations (Yuquanlu, Zhongguancun, the Olympic Village, and Yanqi Lake), and has provided high-quality education to almost 200,000 students as of Dec 2021.

Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants should NOT hold Chinese citizenship.
- Eligible applicants should be proficient in English or Chinese.
- For master’s program applicants: you should be born after 1st January 1994 (inclusive).
- For PhD program applicants: you should be born after 1st January 1989 (inclusive).
- Eligible applicants should meet the admission criteria for international students of USTC/UCAS.
- Eligible applicants should NOT take up other assignments during the period of his/her scholarship.
- If you are currently pursuing a master’s degree at any university/institution in China, you are NOT eligible for the master’s program of this scholarship. If you are currently pursuing a doctoral degree at any university/institution in China, you are NOT eligible for the PhD program of this scholarship. Otherwise, you will be disqualified from admission and the situation will be reported to your current university/institution.
- Applicants for programs instructed in Chinese should have passed new HSK Level 4 or above; applicants whose native language is Chinese, or who can provide proof of studying at a high school/university where the teaching language is Chinese, can apply for an HSK test exemption. Applicants for programs instructed in English need to provide proof of English language proficiency.

Documents Required
- Photocopy of passport (ordinary passport with validity of at least one year)
- A study plan or research proposal (no less than 800 words)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Photocopy of degree certificate and academic transcripts for both bachelor’s degree and master’s Degree (if have) notarized by Ministry of Education or equivalent authority in your country.
- Two letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors (with phone number and email address)
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form (link)
- English Proficiency letter
- Non-criminal certificate (police character certificate)
- Personal statement
- Applicants for programs instructed in Chinese must provide a photocopy of their HSK certificate (at least level 4) or other proof of their Chinese language proficiency; applicants for programs instructed in English must provide a photocopy of valid IELTS or TOEFL result or other proof of their English proficiency (except those whose mother tongue is English).
